About Carnival of the Animals
Carnival of the Animals is a humorous and imaginative musical suite composed by Camille Saint-Saëns in 1886. It consists of 14 short movements, each representing a different animal or creature through playful and expressive music.
Some well-known sections include:
“The Swan” – a graceful cello solo evoking the elegance of a swan.
“The Royal March of the Lion” – a grand, regal theme for the king of the jungle.
“The Elephant” – a comical, heavy dance played by the double bass.
“Tortoises” – a slow, witty parody of the famous Can-Can tune.
“Hens and Roosters” – a lively, clucking melody mimicking barnyard fowl.
“Pianists” – a humorous take on music students practicing scales.
Though Saint-Saëns originally wrote it for private entertainment, it has become one of his most famous and beloved works!
